DetailsThis is the first exhibition to reveal the whole picture of Watanabe Shotei, which was active from the Meiji era to the Taisho era.
Shotei traveled to Paris at the 1878 Expo and has the experience of interacting with Degas and other Impressionist painters. The delicate and stylish bird-and-flower paintings have since been highly acclaimed overseas due to exhibitions at the Expo and solo exhibitions in London.
On the other hand, in Japan, although his ability was recognized, such as drawing the cloisonne original painting of the guest house Akasaka Palace, he gradually moved away from the central painting stage after the 30's of the Meiji era and continued to be a painter of Ichii, so he will be introduced at the exhibition. Opportunities have decreased.
In this exhibition, we will introduce all the paintings of Shotei, focusing on private collections that were unknown until now, including works from overseas.
