Remarks | Sanyutei Rakko's Rakugo, Scents, and Art Collaboration "Welcome Back to Engi-yado" @ Ryokan Sawanoya will hold an event called "Sanyutei Rakko's Rakugo Performance 'Engirakugo'". The venue is KOKESHI GALLERY, which is just a stone's throw away from Ryokan Sawanoya. The venue will feature a special exhibition of works by artists Erica Ward and Takao Sakai, who are participating in Engi-yado, and Perfumer Kō will act as a fragrance DJ and create a scent to accompany Rakko's rakugo. It's a rakugo performance where rakugo, art, and scents collaborate. Let me share a little memory. A certain day in September 2021. It was one day during the "Welcome to Engi-yado" event. The person who casually entered the venue carefully looked at each of the exhibits at Engi-yado. Just as I was feeling happy, the person next approached the display shelf in the dining room of the Sawanoya Inn and discovered the "Sasebo Goma/Kenka Top" displayed there, and began to look at it with delight. Sawanoya Inn is a place where travelers from all over Japan and the world gather, and is filled with folk crafts and souvenirs left by travelers as a memento of their visit. "May I touch it?" the person asked, and looked at the top with great care. His serious gaze as he looked at the work and his delight in the top made me realize that he was no ordinary person, and I couldn't help but speak to him. "Do you also create works of art?" The person replied, "No, I'm a rakugo performer." Yes, this person was none other than San'yutei Rakkayo. Rakkayo's hometown is Sasebo, Nagasaki. And now he is based in Yanaka. I see, that's why his eyes were drawn to the Sasebo Goma at the Sawanoya Inn. This was also a coincidence. Thus, after our connection with "Welcome to Engiyado," we wanted Rako-san to hold a rakugo performance with the message, "Welcome back to Engiyado," and so "Engirakugo" was born. Sanyutei Rako-san's rakugo is rich in humanity, including kindness, weakness, and even uncoolness. The man himself is just like a resident of the world of rakugo, sprinting at full speed on the things he loves, from rakugo to public baths/saunas, fishing, cooking, and drinking. This time, we will be featuring Sanyutei Rako-san's rakugo and the artists of "Engiyado." When rakugo, art, and fragrance come together, what kind of space will emerge, and how will the rakugo come to life? Please enjoy "Engirakugo." We hope that Sanyutei Rakko's rakugo will help you make wonderful connections. |
