Details | After publishing "Otsugomori" in December 1894 (Meiji 27), Higuchi Ichiyo in a short period up until January 1896 rapidly produced masterpieces such as "Yukumo," "Nigorie," "The Thirteenth Night," "Wakaremichi," and "Takekurabe," which have been read by future generations and have also been adapted for film and stage productions. Wada Yoshie, a writer and Ichiyo researcher, later described this period as "fourteen miraculous months." This exhibition will introduce the works written during this fruitful period, along with the background to this "miracle," such as Ichiyo's network of contacts and her reputation in the literary world. |
