Remarks | To commemorate the publication of vol. 04 of MIOKO's illustrated essay and short story manga zine "Mostly on a Futon," MIOKO will hold a solo exhibition "Sometimes on someone else's futon @ Ryokan Sawanoya Again." Since 2020, MIOKO has been using a simple notebook and a black ballpoint pen to write down her "everyday life" and the "unknown thoughts" that float "inside" her in pictures and words like a diary. Sometimes they contain humor like a short story, sometimes they give a startling look, and sometimes they make you feel a vague sadness... These "everyday life" and "unknown thoughts" have multiplied and the book "Mostly on a Futon" was born. A futon is a place that exudes a sense of everyday life and is closely connected to our daily lives, but it can also be a mysterious place where you can think about all sorts of things on a sleepless night, or where you can be lulled into a dream world, where you can go back and forth between "inside" and "outside," between the everyday and the extraordinary, here and there. It's a truly mysterious place. I continued to publish one book, then two, and now I'm publishing my fourth. For the publication of the second volume, I visited a futon at the long-established "Ryokan Sawanoya" in Yanaka, and for the publication of the third volume, I visited a futon at "Ie Gekijyo" in Kita-Senju, and held a solo exhibition that could only be held on someone else's futon. My third solo exhibition, "Sometimes on someone else's futon," will be held again at "Ryokan Sawanoya." This time, I will stay at the Ryokan Sawanoya for a few days and create my works in residence. The exhibition will feature the works I created during my stay and the zine "Mostly on a futon. The exhibition will feature original drawings from "My Everyday Life" vol.04, and a gigantic live drawing session will also be held during the exhibition. MIOKO spends most of her time in bed. However, there are times when she feels the urge to move. For MIOKO, Ryokan Sawanoya is a quick train ride away, and is not far from the city. She has visited the place many times for previous exhibitions, and it is not an option for her to go out of her way to "travel". However, by choosing to stay in this place, at Ryokan Sawanoya, she is attempting to gain both the perspectives of "everyday life" and "the perspectives of a traveler". When MIOKO's everyday perspective and the perspective of a traveler intersect on a stranger's futon, in a strange place, what mysterious thoughts will spring to mind? We are living our everyday lives today as well. I hope that through MIOKO's work, you will be able to travel in your everyday life. |
