Special visits of the successive Tokugawa Shogun mausoleum
Kaneiji Temple accepts special visits to the successive Tokugawa Shogun mausoleum three to four times a month (advance bookings necessary). Please check Kaneiji Temple’s website or make an enquiry by phone for details.

IntroductionIt was founded in 1625 by a chief abbot Tenkai as a temple to pray for the peace of the Shogunate and the people. Afterwards, it became the greatest temple of Edo by receiving Yamanushi from the royal palace and serving ancestral tablets for Tokugawa's family. Most of the precinct buildings were lost due to the civil war that occured at the end of the Tokugawa shogunate, but it is still being passed down today.
