There are gems of artworks from the late Gothic era to the 20th century.


14th-16th Century Paintings (Main Building, second floor) / Joos van Cleve, "Triptych: The Crucifixion Flanked by the Kneeling Donor and His Wife" (First half of the 16th century, right), Gillis van Coninxloo, "Landscape with the Judgement of Paris" (End of the 16th century - early 17th century, left)

 The museum's collection began 370 or so items of the Matsukata Collection when it opened in 1959, and, now, the museum stores a total of 4,500 items, including paintings, sculptures, drawings, prints, crafts, etc. created in the late Gothic, Renascence, Mannerism (14th-16th century) and Baroque (18th century) eras, and before World War II (19th-20th century) and after World War II (20th century).


17th Century Paintings (Main Building, second floor)

Peter Paul Rubens, "Two Sleeping Children" (c. 1612-13, 17th Century Paintings)
This is thought to be a study depicting Clara and Philip, the children of Rubens's elder brother. Their faces appear in other large paintings.
